Prof. Angela Casini is one of the most prominent bioinorganic chemist in the last years. As the head of medicinal chemistry department at the Cardiff University, she has been investigating the medicinal chemistry of gold compounds with interesting results in the inhibition of PARP-1, aquaporins among other targets. We have been establishing a collaboration in the design of metal complexes for fighting neglected tropical diseases, specially Leishmaniasis. In strong collaboration with the parasitologist Prof. Danilo C. Miguel, from Institute of Biology, University of Campinas, we have been forming a strong team to understand the mechanisms and find drug candidates in Inorganic Chemistry for a safer treatment of this diseases. Recently, we had a mobility funding approved by FAPESP in the modality SPRINT. Soon, Prof. Casini will be visiting and sharing her skills at the Institute of Chemistry, University of Campinas.
